The Toowoon Bay Ocean Swim is a joint venture hosted by Toowoon Bay SLSC and The Entrance Amateur Swimming Club. The inaugural Ocean Swim was conducted on 3rd December, 2005 and has been held annually since then.
Three seperate distances are contested - 400m, 1 kilometre and 2 kilometres. The swims are directed around a rhombus shaped course within Toowoon Bay. Large yellow bouys define the course, enabling all swimmers to have the best sighted course possible.
Members of Toowoon Bay SLSC provide excellent water safety throughout the events. The Swimming Club organise recording and provide a referee for the swim. Tuggerah Tuffs Winter Swimming Club assist on the day by manning the BBQ. They also so make a donation to the Ocean Swim.
Proceeds from the swim are equally allocated to both Clubs and a donation is also made to the Disabled Surfers Association. Many local businesses donate/sponsor the swim and we are grateful for their contributions and support.
The swim has grown in popularity and the number of competitors has increased from one hundred to two hundred plus competitors. All abilities contest the event and ages have ranged from eight years to eighty six years old.
The aim of the Ocean Swim Committee is to provide an enjoyable, safe and challenging swim.
Come and join our swim!
